Let's name the trees!

Posted By on Mon, Sep 27, 2010 at 2:43 PM

One of the first ideas presented on the TEDxCharlotte stage Friday was to name all of Charlotte's trees so people will care when they die. I think they're on to something there, especially since tonight's the night for the city's tree ordinance.

You can attend the meeting in person, online or from your couch (by watching channel 16 if you have cable). But if you want to make an impact, you'll need to speak up. The local Sierra Club has created an easy button for you, if you'd like to send an e-mail. Of course, you don't have to mimic what they're saying about the issue. The point is to raise your voice so it's heard.

As you're trying to decide what to say, remember the wise words of Dr. Seuss' Lorax:

Rhiannon "Rhi" Bowman is an independent journalist who contributes snarky commentary on Creative Loafing's CLog blog four days a week in addition to writing for several other local media organizations. Additionally, she's on the steering committee for the Greater Charlotte Society of Professional Journalists. To learn more, click the links or follow Rhi on Twitter.
