N.C. GOP declares victory nearly a month before the election

In ballsy news you just can't make up, here's an e-mail, sent to Republican supporters just before 4 p.m. yesterday:

Election Night Victory Party!

Friends & Fellow Conservatives,

November 2, 2010 is shaping up to be an historic night for North Carolina Republicans. If we continue to work hard and support our conservative candidates, we will enjoy a victory unlike any in the history of our party or our state.

The NCGOP would like to invite you to attend our Election Night Victory Party as we celebrate the re-election of Senator Richard Burr, our new Republican Congressional delegation, the election of Republican majorities in both houses of the General Assembly, and the victories of conservative judicial candidates throughout the state.

It is our hope that candidates, activists, volunteers, campaign staff, and conservatives from all across the state will join us in Raleigh on Election Night for our victory party. This event is designed to help our Republican candidates save money that would be better spent prior to Election Day. The NCGOP will cover all costs for our victory party, and candidates can enjoy an Election Night gathering at absolutely no cost to them or their campaigns!

Everyone in the state is invited to join us in the Grand Ballroom of the Marriott City Center in downtown Raleigh. We’ll have food, multiple cash bars, and of course, big screens displaying election returns as they come in. The party is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. RSVP's are not required, but we encourage you to do so at rsvp@ncgop.org or on our Facebook Event Page.

For many months, you have worked tirelessly to ensure GOP success throughout North Carolina. In less than a month, your hard work will result in sweeping Republican victories. It is our hope that we can come together in our state capital for an unforgettable party on our historic night. We hope to see you there!

If you would like a hotel room at the Marriott on election night, we can offer you a discounted rate of $139 per night including valet parking (regularly an $18 value) until Friday, October 8th. After that date, the discounted rate will not be available, and you will have to make arrangements directly with the hotel. Let us know by Friday, October 8th at noon to reserve your discounted room at the Marriott by emailing rsvp@ncgop.org.

Good for the GOP for being enthusiastic (elections are exciting after all), but let me remind them and you — the voters decide who wins, and they haven't had a chance to voice their opinions yet. So, hang tight everyone: Election Day is Nov. 2.

And, remember what I always say about elections: 1) They're all important and 2) Don't vote, don't bitch.

Of course, not everyone thinks the GOP has this election in the bag: Check out this video from CBS' Face the Nation: "Democrats are not in trouble." Democratic strategist Jamal Simmons talks about education, spending and why the GOP should wait until the votes are counted.
