Speak, spit and slam: Uptown Poetry Showdown

Posted By on Wed, Jun 1, 2011 at 10:00 AM

A pen is definitely mightier than a sword for those participating in the Uptown Poetry Showdown this weekend, on June 4.

Picture-1

Hosted by Respect Da Mic Poetry Slam, this battle of words will pit four local poetry teams against one another to win ultimate street credibility — and to prepare for the regional and national slams in Atlanta and Boston, respectively. But this ruthless crusade isn’t just about the showdown. Respect Da Mic is also hosting a writing workshop open to writers of all ages who wish to get the creative juices flowing. Afterward, a “Spit Dat” slam is open to youth poets ages 12-19 before the showdown begins.

Let the verbal carnage begin.

$5-$10.

Workshop at noon, teen slam at 1 p.m. and showdown at 2 p.m.
