Don't get too excited, Sierra magazine, the official magazine of the Sierra Club, didn't name any of Charlotte's colleges in their annual list of cool schools ... despite the city's ongoing yackedyack about being uber-green-focused. (Shocker.)

But, congratulations anyway to Warren Wilson College for their No. 4 listing on the magazine's top 10 of "our nation's most planet-minded universities" list. And wild applause for Appalachian State for coming in at No. 12.

Warren Wilson even got a little write up:

As part of Warren Wilson's put-on-your-boots-and-grab-a-shovel philosophy, students grow trees, alfalfa, and corn and raise cows, pigs, and chickens on the school's 250-acre farm in Asheville, North Carolina. Above, students load a composter with kitchen waste. The resulting humus will be used in the College Garden to grow more produce for the cafeteria.

Also from the magazine regarding this special, their fifth annual on the topic:

According to a 2010 Princeton Review report, 64% of prospective college students take a university's commitment to environmental issues into consideration when deciding where to apply and enroll. Students care deeply about green issues and are attracted to institutions that are working hard to solve environmental problems.
