County Commissioner Jennifer Roberts is stepping down

Posted By on Mon, Nov 14, 2011 at 11:55 AM

After seven years on the Board of County Commissioners, Jennifer Roberts (@commishjennifer) announced this morning that she won't seek re-election next year.

The Charlotte Observer reports that Roberts is making way for new leaders to step up to the plate.

"I want to encourage new leaders to step forward to give them time to plan their campaign and their own quest for ensuring Mecklenburg County's healthy future," Roberts said.

During her talk, Roberts touted several successes during her tenure as commissioner. Among them: work with the county's park and recreation system, improvements to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and the successful bid to bring the Democratic National Convention to Charlotte.

Does this mean that Roberts is stepping aside to make way for Mayor Anthony Foxx's City/County Consolidation Plan?
