Last year, no local organization ponied up to host an official Oscar Night America fund-raising event, and the same holds true this time around — in short, Charlotte is not one of the 49 cities offering the shindig (the closest venues are in Raleigh and Greensboro). Still, that’s not to say local movie fans won’t have somewhere to watch the live telecast with other like-minded filmgoers. The Light Factory, in collaboration with Mez & EpiCentre Theaters, will present Oscar Night: Viewing Party and Tweet-Off, an event that will be hosted by TLF Director of Film Linnea Beyer. (Legal disclaimer goes here: This event is neither endorsed by nor affiliated with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.) Attendees have the choice of dressing up for the evening, arriving in casual wear, or even donning the garb of a character from one of their favorite nominated films. This naturally begs the question: Will the Mez will be overrun with girls with dragon tattoos? — Matt Brunson $10 per screening; $15 awards presentation (includes film to follow); $100 for an all-access pass. May 5-27. EpiCentre Theaters, Mez, 210 E. Trade St. 704-688-2400. www.thelightfactory.org.
