Runway for the Ballet strikes a pose

Posted By on Sat, Mar 23, 2013 at 9:00 AM

Graceful. It's the term usually used to describe a ballet dancer who executes a perfect pirouette. But you could easily say that about the way fabric flows over a woman's body - especially at the sixth annual Runway for the Ballet. On March 23, North Carolina Dance Theatre and its young professionals group Opening Night Insiders are bringing an event that blends fashion and dance for a worthy cause.

While most runway shows focus the attention on the fashion - models are often considered blank canvases for works of art - this event does something a little different. NCDT dancers will don contemporary men's and women's looks (courtesy of Macy's) and saunter down the catwalk, but they'll also perform vignettes of the dance theatre's most popular shows. Proceeds benefit the NCDT. $35 and up. March 23, 4 p.m. & 8 p.m. Patricia McBride & Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux Center for Dance, 701 N. Tryon St. 704-372-0101. www.ncdance.org.
