The feel of an old LP jacket, the smell of vinyl, the needle hitting the grooves - Big Sandy and the boys evoke the simpler days of listening to music. Though they became a band in 1988, the combo may as well have been birthed in the '50s. They have written, recorded and performed old-timey rock, rockabilly, soul, doo-wop and just plain, good American roots music that's unadulterated and pristine since their early garage days and are now on the road in celebration of their 25th anniversary. There's nary a cop-out to contemporary trends, doodads or gimmicky shenanigans to make the rounds of our social media-plagued era. It's all about old-school guitars, bass, drums and solid songwriting, tips of the hat to Gene Vincent, Hank Thompson and American roadhouse twang and roll. The freshly released album, What a Dream It's Been, rounds out their quarter-century mark rather nicely. $12-$15.
