Flagship at the Neighborhood Theatre tonight (10/4/2013)

FLAGSHIP
These cats are here to haunt your dreams. An intriguing addition to Charlotte's music scene, Flagship lays down slow, tense notes that open up to atmospheric flourishes that expand into orchestral fullness. They channel U2 at times, but the band's got quite an original meld of Brit rock and Southern folk that takes its time to bloom. The songs are full of depth where the music floats in a ghostly manner to get inside the listener's skin. Lead singer Drake Margolnick's emotive warble takes a bit getting used to, but he has the ability and agility to sway between angst and gentle, melodic nuances, letting the music wrap around the words. Flagship has an EP under its belt and this is the CD release gig for its self-titled debut, dropping this week. Also on the bill: Junior Astronomers and Jeremy Current. $10-$12. Oct. 4, 8 p.m. Neighborhood Theatre, 511 E. 36th St. 704-942-7997.
