First Drip (7/2/14): Local Dem chair misses deadline to pay fine, update on Arthur, more

Budgetary discussions in Raleigh have exposed the infighting going on between the Republicans in power. Along with not being able to agree on the House or the Senate's version of the budget, legislators have been hurling snarky public comments at each other. Senate Rules Chairman Tom Apodaca told reporters this week, "We're serious about getting a budget done, and it's time to stop playing games." Why can't we all just get along?

Democrats won't survive this week without a scandal, either. Mecklenburg County Democratic Party Chairwoman and N.C. House hopeful Robin Bradford apparently missed the deadline to pay a fine stemming from missing campaign reports in her 2012 bid for a House seat. She says she has paid the fine.

Looks like Hurricane Arthur won't disrupt too many plans this weekend. Rain is likely for most of the Carolinas on Thursday, while Friday looks, for the most part, to be sunny and warm.

Buses carrying undocumented immigrants to a Border Patrol processing station in Murrieta, California, were met by anti-immigration protesters, who caused the buses to turn around and return to a Border Patrol facility near San Diego. "The incident came one day after [Murrieta Mayor Alan] Long urged residents to protest the federal government's decision to move the recent immigrants - who he said were to be the first in a series of arrivals - to the facility in his city. 'Murrieta expects our government to enforce our laws, including the deportation of illegal immigrants caught crossing our borders, not disperse them into our local communities,' Long said Monday. The city had defeated two previous attempts to send migrants to the facility, he said."
