First Drip (11/28/2014): Austin shooter down, French president in ebola zone, more

A gunman was fatally shot by police after opening fire at "multiple buildings" in downtown Austin, including Austin police headquarters, the Mexican consulate and the federal courthouse early today. Officials reported that a bomb-disposal robot was examining a possible device near the police HQ, which was evacuated.

The mystery novelist known as the ‘Queen of Crime’, who wrote under the name P. D. James died at her home in Oxford, England. She was 94. She accumulated numerous awards for the 18 crime novels she wrote during a career spanning a half-century.

French President François Hollande visits Guinea today, and is the first non-African leader to visit one of the countries hardest hit by the virus. He is expected to announce more aid and visit health care centers. His trip is more symbolically important as a show of support for West Africa, which has been shunned since the outbreak was first declared.

Fashion trucks are headed to South End for Small Business Saturday. South End’s first fashion truck rodeo takes place Nov.29 in the parking lot of the Shu and Brief storefronts, located at 1426 S. Tryon Street. These mobile fashion purveyors are the first step for many entrepreneurs who aspire to a bricks-and-mortar storefront, and pack serious style.
