Going out in Charlotte doesn't have to be expensive. In fact, to prove that statement, we've compiled a list of cheap - $10 or less - things to do in the Q.C. this weekend. These events may vary, but they're all entertaining and they won't break your bank (piggy banks excluded).

Amusements at Evening Muse: This event — a variety show of sorts — features stand-up, sketch comedy and live music. Local comedian Matt Barrentine hosts it all with other Charlotte performers including Madison Davis, Jason B, Colby Davis and Mimi Benfield on the roster. Marques Nash and Funky Geezer will be there to provide the sounds. It’s a good time to see what’s going on in the Charlotte entertainment scene. $6-$8. Evening Muse, 3227 N. Davidson St. 704-376-3737. www.eveningmuse.com.

Culture Initiative Art Social at Neighborhood Theatre: 25 local and regional artist will be displaying their artwork, which will also be for sale (Remember: Tis' the season to buy local!). Music lineup features Miami Dice, Elonzo, DJ Justin Aswell and Jordan Igoe. $10. Dec. 6, 8 p.m. Neighborhood Theatre, 511 East 36th St. 704-942-7997. www.neighborhoodtheatre.com.

Women For Literacy Book Fair at Barnes & Noble (Arboretum location): This event, supporting the Chris Canty Foundation Reading Buddies literacy Initiative, encourages women to come out. There will be several professional women/authors who will be discussing the importance of literacy education, living healthy, and community service. Free with a suggested book donation. Dec. 6, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Barnes and Noble (Arboretum location), 3327 Pineville-Matthews Road. www.chriscantyfoundation.org.

Christmas in Davidson at Davidson Village Green: The downtown portion of Davidson decorates for the holiday season and vendors selling arts, crafts and other handmade goods come together during this three-day festivity. There's also a live nativity, trolley rides, food and more. Free admission. Dec. 5-6, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Davidson Village Green, Concord and Main Streets. www.christmasindavidson.com.

Playwrights on Parade at 100 Gardens: features acts and scenes from the top 15 submissions that Vickie "Broadway on My Mind" Evans picked to be read at the Charlotte theater event. 39 Charlotte actors will be reading the parts, so come out to cheer them on. $10.
