First Drip (2/9/15): R.I.P. Dean Smith, Adnan Syed gets case reopened

Posted By on Mon, Feb 9, 2015 at 10:48 AM

Saturday night, former UNC head coach Dean Smith passed away at his home. He recruited the first African-American for an athletic scholarship at UNC, was a mentor to Michael Jordan and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The Coliseum Shopping Center on Independence Boulevard might — might — be getting some love. TopGolf, a sports entertainment complex based in Dallas, is reportedly looking into that site.

Jury selection begins today in the domestic violence case against Carolina Panther Greg Hardy. He's appealing the conviction he received last year for assaulting his then-girlfriend. (Editor's Note (10:47 a.m.): Prosecutors have dismissed all charges against Hardy, as the accuser could not be found.)

A Maryland court has reopened the case of Adnan Syed. He's the guy whose voice we've heard on NPR's popular podcast Serial.
