According to the N.C. Division of Public Health's 2013 report on AIDS, HIV and STDs, the percentage of African-American males in North Carolina being diagnosed with HIV yearly keeps rising. Its jumped from 46 percent to 49 percent since 2009. Scary, huh?

To raise awareness for HIV/AIDS in the black community, Johnson C. Smith University is hosting a screening of Circles on Feb. 13.

The film, released in 2013 by Tigereye Films, is a provocative drama that highlights the epidemic through characters that ignore the seriousness of safe sex and face the aftermath of unfortunate consequences.

Producer Tricia Woodgett will lead a discussion after the film screening, which goes down at 3 p.m. in Grimes Lounge. Health prevention organizations will also be on-site administering free HIV tests for folks who want to be tested.
