First Drip (2/19/15): CMPD officer fatally shoots woman, Poverty Center to close, more

CMPD officer Anthony Holzhauer shot and killed a 20-year-old woman who lunged at officers with a kitchen knife. Police were called to the scene for a domestic argument. This is the second time Holzhauer, who's been on the force for five years, has fatally shot someone on the job, and the third shooting he's been involved in. No charges have been filed against Holzhauer yet.

Earlier this year, we wrote a story about the UNC's Board of Governors' threat to silence Gene Nichol and close his Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity at UNC Chapel Hill. The review panel has decided to indeed shutter the Poverty Center, in addition to Eastern Carolina’s Center for Biodiversity and NC Central’s Institute for Civic Engagement and Social Change.

CNN reports the Justice Department plans to bring a suit against the Ferguson, Missouri police department "over a pattern of racially discriminatory tactics" if the department does not make moves to revise its practices.

A professional cuddling service is coming to Durham. "The 'cuddlers' are trained on approved positions and video cameras, without audio, are set up in each room. Customers must also sign a waiver, which outlines the appropriate dress and behavior."
