Attorneys for Randall Kerrick, who shot and killed an unarmed black man in 2013 while working on the force, have asked a judge for a second time to hold Kerrick's trial outside of Charlotte. The attorneys filed the motion yesterday, citing the city's $2.5-million settlement as a "substantial change in circumstances" that will bias a local jury. The trial s set for July 20.

A collaboration of race track ownership groups, independent tracks and NASCAR released a joint statement yesterday asking that fans no longer fly the Confederate flag as NASCAR events. The statement is signed by Charlotte-based Speedway Motorsports Inc. The statement follows comments from NASCAR Chairman Brian France and popular drivers Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jeff Gordon that criticized any display of the flag.

Officials in Cabarrus County are looking for a missing Concord girl that they say was last seen at her home on Monday. They say she left on foot but nobody knows where she was heading. Aranza Nolasco is described as 5 feet tall and 150 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Multiple sources familiar with the investigation into Dylann Roof's June 17 murder of nine people in Emanuel AME Church in Charleston have said the investigation has been widened to include other people of interest. While most have believed Roof acted alone, it now appears others had knowledge of what he planned to carry out, the sources said. Investigators reportedly widened the investigation after reviewing Roof's cellphone and computer records.

Authorities are looking for a suspect in the defacing of a portrait of former South Carolina Governor Ben Tillman at Winthrop University. The person wrote "violent racist" on the portrait, which hung in the campus hall bearing his name, causing $3,000 in damage. Tillman was known for his racist rhetoric, including using his position of power to speak in support of lynch mobs.
