A drive-by shooting at a gas station this morning was caught on video by a surveillance camera across the street. A man standing near the pumps at a Marathon gas station on LaSalle Street was shot at about 6 a.m. this morning and taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. A man was killed standing at the same gas pumps just two months ago. In the video of this morning's shooting, a man can be seen running across the gas pumps while the suspect vehicle drives by and then stops in the middle of the road. The video cuts off before the victim is hit, at which time he reportedly stumbles and falls to the ground. Nobody has been arrested yet, police said.
A Lincoln County deputy was hospitalized this morning following a chase straight out of Dukes of Hazzard that left three police cars damaged and ended with two suspects jumping off a bridge into Lake Norman before being arrested. Officers responded to an assistance call to help a Mount Holly officer chasing a van in Denver and, shortly after, two patrol cars were involved in a "chain-reaction collision." One deputy was taken to the hospital with a leg injury and three patrol cars had to be towed from the scene. The two suspects were arrested after reportedly jumping from a bridge where the chase ended and swimming to shore.
A passerby is being credited with saving the life of four Lincoln County people after waking them up and alerting them of a fire in their home. The man said he was driving by a home at about 7:30 a.m. this morning when he saw flames and then began banging on the door. When nobody answered, he went inside and woke up those inside. The family, consisting of two parents, a grown daughter and a toddler she was babysitting, was able to get out of the house safely before the roof collapsed.

Parents and advocates gave impassioned pleas to the CMS Board of Education last night at its meeting regarding a search for a superintendent to possibly replace Ann Clark. Clark has said she will stay on until the next summer break while a nationwide search for her replacement is carried out. Multiple parents spoke out to urge the board to find someone with more leadership experience and a higher degree than Clark. While Collette Forrest, who has been vocal about her interest in seeing Clark replaced, spoke about her desire for someone who will push for greater diversity and integration in CMS, nearly 30 people stood behind her holding signs supporting her stance. One long-time teacher Richard Williams, spoke in support of Ann Clark. Though speakers are not allowed to speak specifically about board members or Clark, Williams said the thought of transitioning to a new superintendent scares him as co-director of project LIFT.
Police don't have much to go on as they search for a mysterious gunman who they believe shot into a car-full of people on I-77 this morning. The driver of the car pulled into a Marathon gas station on Clanton Road after someone in another vehicle reportedly pulled up beside them and fired five shots into the vehicle. None of the three people in the car were hit, but one woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries from the flying glass. Police do not have a description of a suspect or the suspect vehicle.
