The incident lasted about 30 minutes before police cleared the scene. (Staff reports, Charlotte Observer)

The Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office have reportedly arrested a "person of interest" in the seemingly random shooting of a father at a rest stop off I-85 in Cabarrus County. Firefighters spent the morning extinguishing and investigating a blaze at Charlotte Cafe in the historic Park Road Shopping Center. The fire, which happened around 3 a.m., reportedly started in the hood ventilation system of the cafe and caused smoke damage to adjacent businesses Rite Aid and Chopt. Charlotte Cafe suffered around $35,000 in damage and will be closed for some time. The other two businesses will operate on normal schedule today. (WSOC Staff)

A woman was injured after being struck by a car during a hit-and-run on Pineville-Matthews Road this morning. Police said Jeanny Phara Lamartiniere was struck after exiting her boyfriend's car near McPherson Drive. The car that struck Lamartiniere kept going, acceding to officials, and police are currently looking for an older, burgundy Nissan two-door with a rear spoiler and tinted windows. (WCNC Staff)

Several students were reportedly hospitalized at a northwest Charlotte middle school yesterday after ingesting a medication that wasn't prescribed to them. The principal of Whitewater Middle School sent a message to parents stating that "a few students" ingested the prescription medicine and it caused illness. The message also told parents to caution their children about ingesting unknown substances. There's no word on how many students ingested the medication, what the medication was or how it was obtained. (WBTV Web Staff)
