Two suspects were taken into custody after a tense standoff with police this morning at an east Charlotte apartment complex. The duo allegedly robbed a Sam's Mart on Albemarle Road and ran to a nearby apartment at Stanford Reserve apartment complex, where their friend lives with his girlfriend and their baby. One of the suspects was arrested outside of the apartment, while the other locked himself inside. It's unclear whether the friend was aware of what the suspects were planning to do, but he was reportedly cooperative with police and at one point, the four-month-old baby was handed out of the apartment to SWAT teams outside. Both suspects were eventually arrested and taken into custody. (Fox46)

One person was killed in a one-car wreck on Lancaster Highway in south Charlotte the morning, officials said. The car was found in the woods off a sharp bend in the road near Cardinal Woods Drive. It's unclear when exactly the accident happened, but it was discovered around 7:15 a.m. (WBTV Web Staff) The highway was closed for hours this morning but reopened after 10 a.m.

Mayor elect Jennifer Roberts will be sworn in to office along with new and returning city council members tonight. She has said that crime and the city's youth will be two of her biggest focuses to begin her term. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the beginning of tonight's city council meeting, at about 7 p.m. (WSOC)

Just one of many tense situations for Panthers fans yesterday came when star quarterback Cam Newton left the field to be tested for a concussion after a crunching helmet-to-helmet hit from New Orleans Saints line back Michael Mauti in the third quarter. The test was administered to adhere to the NFL's concussion protocol (it came back negative) and, according to Newton, was only administered in the locker room and not on the sidelines so he could sneak away for a bathroom break. (Jarrett Bell, USA Today) Newton quickly returned on the next offensive drive and later led the Panthers to a comeback win in the last two minutes, bringing the Panthers to a perfect 12 - 0 record.

A 19-year-old man was killed Saturday in a ghastly accident during which he was pulled into a wood chipper while working in Gastonia. Investigators said Mason Scott Cox was working with Crawford Tree Service at a home in Gastonia when he tried to kick a limb into the the wood chipper but was pulled in. They have ruled the death an accident. (Fox 8 Web Staff)
