CMPD is investigating the death of a man who arrived at Carolinas Medical Center with a gunshot wound early this morning as a murder. Police believe the shooting happened at an apartment complex on Park Fairfax Drive in west Charlotte, as officers had responded to a call to assist Medic there at around 2:43 a.m. but found no victims. The victim was reportedly driven to the hospital by someone else and staff there notified police. Investigators are still processing the scene and canvassing for possible witnesses to the shooting. The name of the deceased has not yet been released. (Ryan Pitkin)

A plane carrying Hendrick Motorsports team members back to Charlotte following yesterday's NASCAR race in Las Vegas had to make an emergency landing in Memphis this morning after the cabin reportedly filled with smoke. There were no drivers on the plane. The crew members on board were sent home on another plane while the plane in question was evaluated. (Fox46 Staff)

No one was hurt when an abandoned car believed to be stolen was struck by an Amtrak train this morning near the airport. Nobody was in the SUV, and it's believed that someone simply left it sitting on the tracks. The train that struck it, which was heading from New Orleans to New York, had about 160 people on board. No passengers suffered any injuries, but were delayed over two hours while crews cleared the SUV from the tracks. (WSOC Staff)
