The Cumberland County Sherriff's Office has disciplined five officers for their inaction after witnessing a Donald Trump supporter assault a protester at a Trump rally in Fayetteville on March 10. The five officers, whose names are not being released, will be placed on probation for the next year. Three were demoted and suspended without pay for five days, while the other two have been suspended without pay for three days. The CCSO arrested John McGraw on March 11 for assaulting Rakeem Jones, also charging him with communicating threats for stating in an interview after the event that the next time he saw Jones he "might have to kill him." (Eli Rosenberg, New York Times) In this week's Creative Loafing, seven protesters shared their stories of disrupting Trump rallies in the Carolinas – including at the Fayetteville rally – and why they believe it's an important show of resistance to the candidate's hate-filled and violence-inciting speeches.
