10-in-10 CD reviews

Posted by Jeff Hahne on Fri, Mar 20, 2009 at 10:23 AM

Each Friday, we bring you reviews of 10 recently released CDs done in 10 words each:

Input Pictureface — Can’t get past what sounds like rapper with a lisp.

The Rippingtons Modern Art — Upbeat jazz makes me think of a doctor’s waiting room.

O+S O+S — Remy Zero bassist teams with Orenda Fink for mellow grooves.

Kaskade The Grand — Electronic music gets your ass moving…all sounds the same. (At The Forum on May 15.)

Kylesa Static Tensions — Music is a little more unique, but screaming’s the same.

Shrek the Musical Original Cast Recording — Seriously?!? Why not try writing a better movie sequel instead.

The Blackbelt Band A New Community — Music isn’t bad, but lyrics and vocals are kinda weak.

Dan Hicks & The Hot Licks Tangled Tales — Could do without jazzed-up cover of “Subterranean Homesick Blues.”

16 Frames Where it Ends — Sorry, but most of these lyrics, beats sound ripped off.

The Mojo Gurus Let's Get Lit With... — Rock with a Southern twang is unintentionally — I think? — comedic.

Shrek The Musical is fantastic - uh - REALLY. You haven't seen it or heard the cd but you have an opinion. Aren't you clever.

As you can see stated in the headline, these are CD reviews. So, yes, I did listen to the CD. I figured efforts could have been better used making a better sequel as Shrek 2 wasn't great and Shrek 3 was avoidable instead of a musical. In 10 words, I figured that was worth stating instead of "an entertaining CD, but it sounds too much like Broadway."
