10-in-10 CD reviews (4/1/2011)

Posted By on Fri, Apr 1, 2011 at 1:26 PM

Each Friday, we review 10 recently released CDs in 10 words each:

Richard Ashcroft The United Nations of Sound — Verve frontman uses live orchestration in his latest solo effort.

Anthony David As Above, So Below — R&B artist’s latest more of the same vocal-driven soul.

Keren Ann 101 — Dance-pop fused into singer’s first album in four years.

The Lonely Forest Arrows — Another straight-forward indie rock album… makes me say, ‘meh.’

William Fitzsimmons Gold In the Shadow — Indie folk singer’s emotions are front and center in songs. (At the Evening Muse on April 12.)

Darlings Warma EP — Indie rock EP shows moments of grunge and punk ethic.

Gucci Mane The Return of Mr. Zone 6 — Ice cream cone face tattoo is too distracting; sounds lazy.

Royal Bangs Flux Outside — Eclectic mix of rock, pop, and electronica for indie crowd.

Skybombers Black Carousel — Australian rock group has hints of The Strokes in delivery.

Awolnation Megalithic Symphony — Kinda sounds like a pop version of Nine Inch Nails.
