Floating Action floats through Charlotte - Tonight @ Snug Harbor

Posted By on Mon, Nov 14, 2011 at 12:05 PM

Black Mountain’s Seth Kauffman, who writes and performs and records virtually everything on Floating Action LPs, is an honest throwback.

His songs sound like lost A.M. radio-transmissions from Trenchtown and Motown, Stax and Sun Studios. In an age when nostalgia reigns, Kauffman’s eclectic tastes make the slippery notion of authenticity paramount, and that’s one reason his songs pull off the neat trick of sounding vintage and fresh rather than recycled. The oft-underrated, post-Exile mid-’70s Stones is a starting point, but only that.

In betwixt The Fling and the Houstons. $8. Snug Harbor.
