First notes (6/23/2014): Will YouTube yank indie music videos?

Posted By on Mon, Jun 23, 2014 at 1:06 PM

Editor's Note: First Notes is a weekly update of recent happenings in the world of music.

* The coroner is looking into the death of a 24-year-old festival goer at this past weekend's Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas. The three-day EDM event drew more than 130,000 attendees.

* YouTube is threatening to pull down music videos by artists on independent (i.e., non - Big Three) record labels that have refused to sign on to its upcoming subscription streaming service.

* Frances Bean Cobain is not happy with Lana Del Rey's romanticizing death in relation to a conversation about Kurt Cobain. Del Rey, who later clarified her statement, said in an interview with The Guardian, "I wish I was dead already."

* The Avett Brothers are set to headline Nashville's AmericanaFest in September.

* "Kidchella"? When it comes to his child, Kanye West is still ridiculous, throwing a 1-year birthday party complete with a ferris wheel and karaoke.
