On Nov. 27, at the Double Door Inn, the Belmont Playboys will celebrate 20 years of making music with one helluva anniversary party. You can expect to hear new tunes, old favorites and a rarity or two (or more) when the guys -- Mike Hendrix, Chipps Baker, Jeff Hendrix and Mark Painter -- hit the stage.
When we interviewed Hendrix last year and asked about 20 years, it sparked the idea and it's grown from there. The Aqualads and The Trouble Walkers will get it started before the Playboys hit the stage -- and we expect it's going to be loud, rowdy and full of energy as they plan on doing a longer-than-usual set that night.
"I have a lot of out-of-town friends coming in from as far away as New York," Mike Hendrix says. "We'll be doing some old songs we haven't pulled out in a while, as well as some of the newer ones, and we're going to have special 20th anniversary T-shirts available for sale, too.
"I've long suspected that there were at least a few people who came to our shows to see if this would be the one where I finally keel over onstage, like the legendary NASCAR fans who come for the crashes; this just might be the one where it all comes together for 'em at last."
The band has written a number of new songs which they hope to record and release early next year.
Tickets for the show are $10 with music expected to get underway around 10 p.m.
