21ST CENTURY GOLIATH
It’s part of the rock ’n’ roll lifestyle ... well, kind of. Scott Roby, a founding member, songwriter and the guitarist for 21st Century Goliath, has been in jail since July 2012 because of an assault charge. Regardless of guilt or innocence (Roby’s case is a bit convoluted, but we’ll spare you the details), there’s plenty of musicians who have spent more than a night in prison. So, just imagine the size of party this show’s going to be — Roby will be released the day before. The band — which plays an early ’90s brand of beer-soaked pop-metal in the vein of Mötley Crüe, Guns N’ Roses, AC/DC, etc. — didn’t stop while he was gone, but, now that he’s back, one can only assume they’ll add to the accolades, which include a SXSW performance, winning the Ernie Ball Uproar Festival contest and opening gigs for Slash, Skid Row and the Supersuckers.
