Re: “Question the Queen City: The history behind Bojangles' Coliseum

Interesting history on this venue. My uncle is actually taking my family to the circus at the new Bojangles' Coliseum (https://seatnerds.com/charlotte/bojangles-coliseum/). In the picture, it does actually look like a UFO...very cool looking.

Re: “Why do people hate Dave Matthews?

For someone who has been alive long enough to be heavily into them before/when they hit the scene, I think one of the main reasons people might hate them is because of the big change that took place after "Before These Crowded Streets". There was a significant change in the direction towards a bubble gum pop sound that just was not unique anymore. DMB had some of the best musicians in the world (Carter Beauford for example) pumping out the most simple work of a high school garage project after the change. Until 1999 the music was technical, beautiful, melodic. Things like Leroi Moore's saxophone on "Lover Lay down" and his piccolo/flute on "The Dreaming Tree", you never heard music that beautiful again from this band after that. Beauford is considered one of the greatest percussionists of all time. Listen to his work on "Stay (Wasting Time)" and then listen to anything his typical work on the pop like albums that follow. There is no comparison. It's like wasting the horsepower of a Lamborghini to go pick up some groceries.

Re: “Why do people hate Dave Matthews?

As a Brit, I'm mystified by the opprobrium heaped on Dave Matthews. Nobody's heard of him in the UK but I believe he's massive in the US. Consummate musicianship, great songwriting, good rapport with the audience (e.g. live album)... by the way, why does he put on silly English voices, is he originally a Brit?

Re: “New rules at Northlake Mall

Your policy isnt fair. We youngster only have Friday and Saturday to hang and chill with our friends. You literally only made this regulation because there are too many teens. Rethink your thought process. If you really want a change, why dont you check people at the doors instead of stripping us teens of our freedom as if it isnt stripped enough in society today. Mind Im 14 and just want a cool place to hang with my friends. Why should you care anyways, the mall is making money.

Re: “Why do people hate Dave Matthews?

I cannot believe I just sat and read this whole thing... But I had to know some opinions because the people I work with dog on me all the time for my love for DMB... Samurai cop just came on the radio and they make fun of it every time and I just tell them to listen to the lyrics because its a great song!! They have also sent me videos of Dave scatting like wtf is this... AMAZING & ENTERTAINING I tell them!! Like it was said in the beginning you kind of love them or hate them and I totally love them!! Fav band next to the Beatles. Ive seen them like 40 time and been coast to coast to do it and believe every show has been well worth it. Ive been lucky enough to be front row a few times and that was some of the greatest hours of my life. They are all amazing artists that have pulled through and rose from the ashes after losing LeRoi in 2008 and now Boyd... I will follow them until they are done... PS they are worth seeing live for all you haters out there it not just bros and sluts at the show like some schmuck said in an earlier post :)

Re: “Longtime 'CL' Columnist Jerry Klein Passes Away at 66

It was always a pleasure to find that last copy of Creative Loafing in the newstand and dive into a lengthy, passionate essay by Jerry Klein. "Damn the torpedoes" indeed! Our city needs more wild, slightly mad community agitators like Jerry more than ever these days. He was our Don Quixote and long may his legend reign!

Re: “Why do people hate Dave Matthews?

Yep, its the too big thing.
If you were in high school in the late 90s, DMB was a cultural behemoth sucking the oxygen directly out of your lungs. The fans largely moved on to other fads while the innocent bystanders, still pissed.

Re: “Local Church Group Visits Detention Center to Show Support for Immigrant Detainees

Well "Mira" I'm going to do something that you wouldn't or is that couldn't do... I'm going to allow the there are some grains of Truth in what you said...

But this is also true... MIRA is a BOT.

If everyone didn't just tolling the party line and take a minute and do some research, MIRA has only posted things within the past month around the country and it's always this letter. Oh,and I found "her" (it's?) Facebook page. Almost nothing on it except this cartoon picture... Oh,... and one other cartoon image... Boris Badenov the Russian spy from Rocky and Bullwinkle! Too funny!

But, so does "MICHELE RYAN" ... same letter, and others... I wonder if they're all BOT best friends?

Now, someone is going to say, "he's not addressing the facts... he must want to blah, blah, blah..." If you're hiding behind form letters that you've just decided to put out there under various people's names, I'm not dignifying it with any more exploration than I would upon finding a student cheating on a test by plagiarism.

Oh, hats off to Myers Park Baptist and remembering that there was a time that Jesus was also the illegal immigrant... And before anyone starts throwing their Bibles around, pick up your Thompson Chain Reference or your Strong's Concordance, etc and you'll find that right there.

Re: “Local Church Group Visits Detention Center to Show Support for Immigrant Detainees

BTW- It's "Illegal alien" Detainees. They are not lawful "immigrants."

Personally speaking, this election, I vote this for candidates who prioritize citizens over illegal aliens, those who oppose sanctuary cities, amnesty and taxpayer funded in state college tuition discounts for illegals. That means NO Democrats. When will politicians and people in general figure out that when you reward illegal immigration with jobs, amnesty, drivers licenses, discounts for college tuition, scholarships encourages MORE illegal entry.. Illegal immigration negativity effects our economy from employment to use public services. Just debating this in congress is costing taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars..... thank the parents.

I wonder why no protests for American citizens victimized by illegal aliens?

http://www.ojjpac.org/memorial.asp
http://www.illegalaliencrimereport.com/category/murder/

People fleeing persecution? or people fleeing for freebies? they sure don't stay in Mexico when they reach "safety" or ask for political asylum in Mexico. Why? because Mexico will give them nothing. So they make the long journey to our border, our giving liberals and our tax dollars.

The current migration at our southern border is costing taxpayers a Kings Ransom. Not mentioned is 70% of children at the border arrive either alone or with a non parent. We have 20% of children in America living in poverty and 450,000 children in foster care. Democrats have allowed 45 million children to be killed in abortions yet we are to believe they care about 2,000 illegal alien children?

Just a few examples of the more outrageous costs associated with illegal immigration. We have been paying this for decades and will pass this burden on to our children and grand children as has been passed on to us.

The cost of educating illegal aliens children is staggering. From K-12 it costs taxpayers $122,000 for EACH illegal alien student. This does not include the billions spent on bilingual education for illegal aliens.

*Currently city, and state officials are appropriating millions of taxpayer dollarsfor legal fees to to file law suits and in defense of illegal aliens being deported and to sue our own Government..

*30% percent of all Federal Prison inmates are illegal aliens.Does not include local jails and State Prisons. At $21,000 per year expense per inmate in Federal Prison U do the math.

*$3Million Dollars a DAY is spent to incarcerate illegal aliens, I repeat 3 MILLION a DAY to process Illegals in the Criminal justice system.

*$2.2Billion dollars a year is spent on is spent on food assistance programs such as SNAP (food stamps) WIC, & free school lunches.

Re: “Steven Furtick of Elevation: What a surprise - another loaded preacher

I loved reading all the comments and opinions. Personally, Pastor Furtick has encouraged my faith and belief that a personal merciful loving and at times chastising but always truthful restorative healing God loves me . Let God be the judge of his secret heart.

Re: “Why do people hate Dave Matthews?

I think its funny to hear people judge a band based on race, politics, or social view. I am a huge fan been to over 100 shows starting in 1997. Over 240 concerts in my lifetime. I am from the Bay Area, NOT white, NOT a hippie, NOT a prius owner, and have zero love for hippie lifestyle. The shows between 1997-2007 were some of the most fun parties I have ever been to.

It all started in college in the 90s DMB came to fame. We loved the music, lyrics and of course the live shows. Recently, I believe in 2016 at Shoreline Ampitheater in Mountain View, Ca I left the show mid way. The venue was not sold out, which was a first to me. I felt that the band was playing with zero emotion, like it was all fake.

I can see how people today in 2018 find the band to be boring, not real or whatever else one would liek to say.

But I will say this to defend the band. If you really READ the lyrics of his songs from the early years you will find a great musician, great talent and frankly a great human being. He wraps love, hate, sex, nature, lust, and eveything human beings feel into his songs.

I dont like bands and dont listen to them. I dont go on websites to beat them down. I will always love DMB and I see the future to be Dave and Tim sitting on a stool blasting acoustics in years to come.

Lookig forward to this years shows. Lets hope us old fans show up and not the drunken kids.

Re: “Was That a Topless Woman in Center City Today?

Good for her! Circuses teach kids that its acceptable to keep animals in highly unnatural environments and make them to do tricks for our amusement Whips, electric prods, and bullhooks should serve as reminders that the animals arent there because they want to be, but because theyre scared not to be. Animals dont choose to stand on their heads or prance around on their hind legs in silly costumes. Circus trainers use these weapons to force animals to perform frightening, dangerous, and demeaning tricks that they cannot comprehend.

Bravo, Samantha! It's baffling: UniverSoul Circus has fabulous human performers ... it could easily axe the cruel animal acts.

Re: “Was That a Topless Woman in Center City Today?

UniverSoul needs to wake up: People know that animals don't perform tricks because they want to, they do it because they know they'll be beaten if they don't. It's time to leave animals in peace, and let talented humans who want to perform (and get paid to do it!) have the spotlight.

Re: “Was That a Topless Woman in Center City Today?

Props to this protester for raising awareness about how vicious UniverSoul is to animals. I only buy tickets to attractions with WILLING human performers because I am completely against cruelty to animals. And yes, I am vegan and do not wear wool, leather, down, silk, or fur.

Re: “Was That a Topless Woman in Center City Today?

UniverSoul is a prison for animals. They are forced to perform day after day and are treated terribly when they're "off-duty." It's time all circuses freed their animals to sanctuaries and used only human acts from here on out. No one wants to see animals abused; I know I certainly won't be buying a ticket.

Re: “Was That a Topless Woman in Center City Today?

It was, and I hope people were paying attention. UniverSoul has been using and abusing animals for 25 years. Until it gets with the times and features only willing human performers, people who care about animals will keep their distance.

Re: “Billy Graham's Other Legacy

Thank you Matt! This side of the story needs to be told. It is amazing what you can get away with and how fondly people will remember you in this country if you can only get 'Pastor' or 'Reverend' attached to your name.
