World Water Day spotlights coal-ash contamination in local ponds, rivers 

This is one of the two unlined, high-hazard coal-ash ponds behind Duke Energy's Riverbend plant. It's 80-feet deep, encompasses 41 acres and can fit 200 tennis courts on its surface. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities withdraws 80 percent of the city's drinking water just downstream.
