In the early 2000s, when his 90s high had started to wane, his music got labeled as a frat soundtrack, simple as that. Music snobs put a label on his listeners and then that was that. Whats funny is that it doesnt match his music at all. His lyrics are very often thoughtful and the instrumentation was innovative (mainstream) in the 90s when no one was using all those instruments in that kind of way. Hes just a dude that likes to smoke weed and hang out with his wife. And I guess that upsets insecure people who cant just appreciate a sound for a sound. If you dont like it, dont listen to it. Problem solved.
