Not that I think ya should ever try and sabotage anyone's show or event. But I think it would be a classier move for CL to actually promote a show that serves as a memorial to one of their own LONG TIME contributors who was murdered several years ago.
Well, that was a step in the right direction. Now you're just back to the point of being extremely clueless about the music scene, instead of COMPLETELY clueless. Wanna make it even better? Reassign your music "writers" to other departments. And get people who actually reach out beyond the same 5 or 6 scene approved cliques that your rag continually rehashes, over and over and over.
Just curious Mr. EIC.....what does your own music department think about the Soundboard removal?
I just think it's a true guage of how you feel about your role in the music scene. I mean, sure, you guys have ALWAYS cherry-picked the bands that YOU feel are worthy of extended coverage. Usually based on what their perceived socio/political message was, or how "artistic" you find them. However, you always atleast informed the community what was available on any given night. By striking the Soundboard, and lumping a few select shows that you choose in with your weekly suggestions, you are letting Charlotte know you don't feel there is much to see or hear, outside of what you sanction. But really, that's a moot point. Don't do it for the scene. Do it for your own survival. Because this little slice of ass-chewing you have received this past week is the beginning of the campaign to leave more and more copies of your rag sitting in their stalls. HOPEFULLY, you're starting to see just how important the music section is to your survival.
You SHOULD devote the print space to what is going to prompt more people to pick the things up. You may as well lower your press numbers even more and just avoid putting them anywhere in Noda, Plaza Midwood, Southend, and ANY of the local clubs across the city.
Wasting time and bandwidth on a band that the target audience of Creative Loafing will never listen to is the reason this "music section" is irrelevant and clueless. I mean....don't you have have some shitty Mumford and Sons record to talk about or an interview with some terrible indie rock shreck that you deem important that you can post instead?
