Re: “Rude or racist?

As kid in DC, with my Mom, we would go to McDonald's and someone would always sit in the other part of the 4 top. I remember asking my Mom why people did that. IN suburban Virgina people would use social graces to ask if it was OK to sit with someone else. In the city, 10 short miles away, it was the opposite.

Re: “The recent nice weather has brought out the bugs, bees and Bible thumpers

When I was a kid. I remember a knock on our front door. I looked thru the peephole and saw it was Jehovah's Witnesses. I told my Mom and she said, "I'm not answering that door." I had to go to work, so I exited the back door, got into my car and drove away. I still remember the look on their faces when they realized I split on them.

Re: “How Ahmed Mohamed's experience brought me back to my childhood in Texas' schools

As I read your latest article I too was taken back to my childhood. I was the outsider, the fat kid. I was routinely treated the way you were. "Not bad for you." aka: fat kid.

The outsider in our culture isn't celebrated by the main stream, rather the butt of jokes. As the outsider, I never let those idiots get me down and out. My mother was primarily responsible for this, as she always said, "You can do whatever you want. It is your choice and I can't choose for you".

Thanks for reminding me how I ended up who I am today.
The moral? Don't take crap from anybody!
Be yourself no matter what other try to do to put you down or "in your place."

Kudos!

Re: “Jason Collins provides young black gay men much-needed role model

The bridge to the community is through the church. I don't see many churches openly espousing his virtues. They will continue to degrade him in the name of "the heavenly father".

I applaud him, too. Now I would love to applaud the church but they need to earn my applause first!

Re: “Ain't nobody got time for another YouTube stereotype

I have to agree with the class distinction argument. I want to add this: If people knew they were contributing to this by being unwitting pawns, they might think otherwise.

Right now, we have a massive segment of our society this afflicts. Until they get better economic opportunities, they will continue to give sanity cringing interviews. Who can blame them, if they get there 15 minutes and it breeds the opportunity to make money, they are unlikely to stop.
