A smashing performance

Thursday, May 10

Comedy legend Gallagher (yep, he's still alive), with his Sledge-O-Matic in tow, is sure to cover the Queen City with a variety of produce. The watermelon-smashing comedian who often makes jokes about observations of everyday life is also working on a music CD featuring a song entitled, "My Pet Peevage? Butt Cleavage." We suggest you bring a poncho. Doors open at 7 p.m., show at 9 p.m. $25, $30. Coyote Joe's, 4621 Wilkinson Blvd. 704-399-4946.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
