It’s not every day that Botswana native Pamela Phatsimo Sunstrum visits Davidson. The artist, who resides in South Africa, has been up at Lake Norman for the past three weeks during a Davidson College residency that culminates with an installation, Ab Initio. It showcases what she’s been up to since her arrival on Aug. 26. The site-specific installation is comprised of drawings and projected animation used to formulate a multi-dimensional narrative landscape. Physics, sci-fi, parallel worlds, the universe, human nature and isolation play recurring roles in Sunstrum’s past work. It often has a collage-like feel with layers of details covering a vast spectrum of space.
