Art: The CL comic takeover

Thursday, March 13

Creative Loafing's Editor-in-Chief and comic book aficionado, Carlton "I'm not a geek" Hargro will lead a discussion about blacks in comics. Join Carlton as he talks about black artists and imagery from Torchy, a syndicated strip in the era of segregated newspapers, to Marvel's super hero the Black Panther -- and beyond. Tusculum College professor Taimi Olsen will discuss her research on a surprising African-American perspective in the classic strip Krazy Kat.

7 p.m. $5 includes light refreshments. Levine Museum of the New South, 200 E. Seventh St. 704.333.1887 ext. 501. www.museumofthenewsouth.
