Avant-garde

Saturday, October 13

A major art event is happening not far from the offices of Creative Loafing. The homeless, many talented artists, are being given a platform to showcase their work while giving back to a place that both supports and nurtures their souls. Art Works 945 is the annual reception, sale, and auction featuring over 200 paintings, photographs, ceramics, crafts, and poetry created by these little-appreciated citizens of Charlotte. Proceeds will benefit both the artists and the Urban Ministry Center. 5-8 p.m. Train Station Gallery, Urban Ministry Center, 945 N. College St. 704-347-0278. www.artworks945.org.
