"Snoops and Sleuths: American Private Eye Films" at the Main Library

The Charlotte Film Society is always worthy, and last year's winner, film maven Dennis Darrell, continues to impress with his rotating slate of series (such as this summer's "Shorts In The Spirit III"). But let's take a moment to acknowledge the Main Library's long-running film program, which, unlike most of the city's other series, continues to offer Charlotteans a peek at films made before, say, 2002. Past series have focused on cult flicks and classic horror yarns; the current one targets detective tales. Give thanks to the Library's Sam Shapiro, who (as he puts it) "budgets them, selects them, purchases their public performance rights, writes the flyers, designs the posters, and introduces the films."
