Best forms one half of the talented songwriting duo in experimental rockers Pyramid along with Joey Stephens — though it’s probably more accurate to say he’s one-eighth of the songwriting octet. But it’s a damn fine fraction, whatever it is. Best’s songs simmer with haunting intensity until they erupt like summer storms, perfect audio settings for imagery-rich narratives whose tension-and-release is just as deliciously unsettling.
