A repeat winner. Wear out your in-laws with an adrenaline-pumping paddle down the world’s largest artificial whitewater river. If they’re giving you an extra hard time, send them off on the 11 miles of hiking trails without a map or breadcrumbs, and bask in your well-earned downtime with a beer at River’s Edge Bar & Grill. Seriously, though, there aren’t many places Charlotteans can take pride in as a true tourist attraction. (We all just can’t sit around waiting for that NASCAR museum.) For now, whitewater reigns.
