Romanian writer-director Cristian Mungiu, whose abortion drama 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days was an international success back in 2007, appears to have another winner on his hands with this latest effort that took Best Actress and Best Screenplay honors at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. The Best Actress prize was actually shared by Cristina Flutur and Cosmina Stratan; they play Alina and Voichita, two women who grew up together in an orphanage, spent many years apart and have now been reunited. Voichita has since embraced religion and lives in a convent, and when Alina arrives on the scene hoping to take her friend away, the priests and nuns believe this outsider must be some sort of demon.
