Bizarre crime from Charlotte police files (May 7)

Not so bright future

The Ol' Bait And Switch: Police were dispatched to Sharon Amity Road in reference to an unpaid cab fare. The cab driver told officers that the suspect had run off without paying for the $20 fare. Around the same time, the suspect call 911 to report a fake crime in an effort to divert officers from the cab's location. So in order to avoid being charged with one crime, he committed another?

How'd That Get There?: A woman phone police after she found a .177 caliber Marksman Repeater BB gun under her hotel room bed. Personally, what happens in a hotel room before I got there is something that stays out of my mind ... and probably stays on the comforter, too.

Future's So Bright: A 34-year-old man visiting from Atlanta called police after his sunglasses went missing. He placed his $200 Maui Jim Lighthouse sunglasses in their brown Maui Jim case, inside his jacket, upon arrival at an uptown Charlotte strip club. When he retrieved his jacked on his way out, three-and-a-half hours later, he noticed they were missing. We're also guessing he lost a large number of dollar bills.

Drugs Are Bad: Police arrived to an apartment complex in west Charlotte, finding a person passed out inside a vehicle. An officer looked inside the vehicle and saw five individually wrapped baggies of marijuana in plain view, totalling 6.4 grams. Upon further inspection of the car, officers found nine MDMA pills — five purple with skulls and crossbones on them; four pink — and a silver .38 special Charter Arms revolver. They also found two digital scales — one with marijuana residue on it in the vehicle's glove box and a second scale in the right passenger door. But wait, that's not all. They also found a metal grinder used for marijuana — adorned with skulls — in the driver's side door.

Blotter items are chosen from the files of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
