Bizarre crimes from Charlotte police files (Oct. 17) 

That's why you don't send nudies

What a gas: Police responded to a theft call near Carowinds last week after a man duped a gas station out of some gasoline. Employees told officers that the man pulled up to a pump at 11:30 p.m. and somehow rigged it to dispense gas without charging him any money. After filling his car, he left the pump open for "numerous associates" who were waiting nearby. This continued for 30 minutes. By midnight, 800 gallons of premium gasoline costing $2,800 had been stolen.

The Hangover: A 22-year-old man is undoubtedly rethinking the way he spends his evenings after waking up in a hospital following a night of heavy drinking. After being hospitalized with broken bones, the man told police that he was possibly near the EpiCentre and that he was possibly assaulted by some unknown person, but he did not quite remember.

A dolla make me holla: Somewhere in Charlotte, a thief is looking for a new line of work. A 25-year-old man told police that he was walking on a trail in the McAlpine Creek area when a man approached him and robbed him at gunpoint. The victim gave him all the money he had in his wallet — a dollar bill — before the man fled the scene.

Dirty dog: A 21-year-old TSA screener at Charlotte Douglas International Airport was given a surprise last week when she tried to check a pet crate. The woman was bitten on the hand by the crate's resident, a 7-year-old, two-pound Yorkie. The dog was seized.

Silver lining: A 66-year-old disabled man was caught shoplifting last week, but it may have been the best thing that could have happened to him. The man was caught stealing cologne and sunglasses from a local Belk and was issued a citation, but he told officers a heartbreaking story as to why he was doing it. The man, both hearing- and speech-impaired, told officers that his brother put him up to it. He claimed that his brother assaults him on a regular basis and takes the weekly government check the man relies on to live. A social services referral was filled out so that authorities could look into the accusations.

Cutting up: Two boys were broken up after getting into a fight outside of Sterling Elementary School last week. After administrators separated the two kids, they reported that one had brought a very typical weapon for an elementary fight: a pair of scissors.

Video vixen: A 29-year-old man filed a police report after saying a woman he had been with blackmailed him. He told officers the woman had recorded him doing explicit things and then later showed him a picture of all of her Skype contacts. He said she threatened to share the video with all of her contacts if he didn't send her money.
