Just as important as the art of storytelling is the ability to preserve the stories at hand. That was the concept behind broadcaster, editor and author David Isay's StoryCorps -- a nonprofit organization that gives folks the opportunity to record, share and preserve life stories via CD at the Library of Congress' American Folklife Center, and even across airwaves as broadcast on NPR's Morning Edition. Isay's first StoryCorps book, titled Listening Is an Act of Love, rose to stardom, becoming a New York Times best-seller. His sophomore effort, titled Mom: A Celebration of Mothers, comes just in time for Mother's Day and celebrates the lives and experiences of mothers across the country. On tour in promotion of the new book, Isay will be at Joseph-Beth Booksellers on today to sign copies. 7 p.m. Joseph-Beth Booksellers, 4345 Barclay Downs Drive. 704-602-9800. www.josephbeth.com.
