The Deal: It's the latest issue of Captain America. This month's story tells the latest episode in the ongoing saga of the Marvel Universe after Cap's death. As you may know, Cap's old partner Bucky (who was recently "resurrected" from the dead) has taken on the Captain America persona -- and it's a role the former sidekick is struggling to successfully pull off. Oh, and Cap's other old partner, the Falcon, steps back on the scene after being out of the comic for a few months.
The Good: Brubaker and Epting continue to unfold an interesting tale this month. Focusing on the writing side of things, I never thought I'd get to a point where I don't care if the original Cap returned or not -- but I'm there. The Bucky version of Cap is jaded, insecure and melancholy, which makes him a little more relatable and interesting than the near-perfect Steve Rogers. Brubaker also drops a cool guest star on us this month, and this edition's ending is worth the price of admission alone. Perusing the art, it appears that Epting has turned in another great batch of gritty, realistic pencils and inks that work well with Brubaker's espionage-laced prose.
The Bad: As much as I like what Brubaker is doing in Captain America, this story has been dragging on for a little too long. And honestly, at this point I can't say I know exactly what is happening. I'm pretty much ready for things to wrap up so we can get on to other villains and situations. Although judging by this issue's ending, I do believe that the end is near.
The Verdict: I'll keep buying Captain America, but I'm getting a little impatient with the current storyline.
