Carolina Pro Musica: Music in the French Court of Catherine de Medici

Catherine de Medici, who married Henri II King of France, expressed her creativity through festivals. She enjoyed dancing and showcased dance-dramas, an early form of ballet which included vocal music. She imported musicians from Italy and employed poets such as Pierre de Ronsard to assist her. Many music collections were published mid-16th century. Enjoy music, poetry and dance from 16th c. France including some of the world’s greatest hits. Carolina Pro Musica, now in its 36th season, performs with period instruments and voices.
