Celebrating Shorts

Sunday, Sept. 16

With the Charlotte Film Festival having just wrapped up, it's now time for 15 Short Film Festival. Conceived by Antonio Diaz of Charlotte and Ryan Walker of Pasadena, Ca., the event showcases a wide range of short films (the "15" in the title means that no work can exceed 15 minutes in length), with the winning pieces coming from 11 different countries and including shorts screened at the Sundance, Slamdance and Tribeca film festivals. In addition to screenings, Sunday's event will also include musical performances by Idle Hands, The Solos Unit and Audioform, as well as lifetime recognition awards given to filmmaker and Charlotte native Chris Ivey, Charlotte Observer movie reviewer Lawrence Toppman and Creative Loafing film critic Matt Brunson. 7 p.m. $7 (advance) & $10 (at the door). The Evening Muse, 3227 N. Davidson St. www.15filmfest.com.
