Charlotte folk society celebrates 25 years

It's going to be a big weekend for the Charlotte Folk Society -- they're celebrating their 25th anniversary on Oct. 12 and 13.

The weekend will kick off with a homecoming event on Friday from 5:30 to 10 p.m. at St. John's Baptist Church, 300 Hawthorne Lane. Along with a covered dish dinner, the event will welcome past and present members, as well as friends, and a reunion concert of four bands -- The Annabelles, Celtic Trader Jammers, The Kee Family and The Mallard Creek String Band. Bring a dish or donate $5.

On Saturday, an anniversary concert with more than 25 acts will be held at Dale F. Halton Theatre on the campus of CPCC from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors 65 and older and $6 for children 15 and younger. The concert will be held in a Tosco Music Party format, with audience sing-a-longs. Performers include Joe Thompson, Wayne Erbsen, The Circuit Riders, Rodney Sutton, Michael Reno Harrell, Carolina Gator Gumbo and many more.

During the day on Oct. 13, free workshops will be held at the Levine Museum of the New South. More information on the workshops and events can be found at www.folksociety.org
