Charlotte Horror Fest CL Recommends

When: Oct. 26-31 2012
According to the folks who make up Charlotte Horror Fest, "Horror films are like pizza and chocolate. If you find someone who doesn't like them, you've found a pretty weird and sad person." The quote, featured in CHF's website bio, doesn't exactly speak the truth for all of us. That is, some of us are just scaredy cats who can't tolerate blood and startling surprises. For those with stronger stomachs, the Charlotte Horror Fest's screenings of shorts and feature-length indie horror and sci-fi films is the place to be. The week-long run starts on Oct. 26 and runs through Halloween at EpiCentre Theater and Neighborhood Theatre. Founded in 2005, the annual event, put on by Indie Film Force, offers a mix of movies revolving around zombies, blood-thirsty children, serial killers, mentally disturbed teens, unknown phenomena and general evil. In the U.K. feature film Unwelcome, four friends are attacked by two other friends who show up uninvited to their cabin retreat. On the short block is Odokuro, a film narrated by Gary ("In Cars") Numan that revolves around a lab-built skeleton comprised of body parts from a rat and monkey that — surprise! — comes to life.
