Photographer Ansel Adams left an indelible mark on the national psyche; his work — featuring windswept pines, hulking granite domes and storm clouds exploding over mountaintops — helped mythologize the western American landscape and popularize natural photography. Charlotte Symphony’s latest features a fairly recent modern classical work by late jazz pianist Dave Brubeck and son, Chris. Per design, some 100-plus Adams shots (and shots of Adams) accompany the 22-minute composition. Also featured are works by Aaron Copland and Duke Ellington. Ultimately, this program treads a fine line between tribute and maudlin sensationalism: Done right, and the music will enhance Adams’ fantastic photography. Done wrong, and we’re left with Thomas Kinkade. Shudder. (Corbie Hill)
