A native of Columbia, SC, steel pannist and composer Andy Akiho has brilliantly crafted a way to unite the sunny sounds of the Caribbean with the colorful sounds of the orchestra. This one-hour concert features several short works from Akiho, whose music has been described as "alert and alive," "dramatic," and "vital" by The New York Times. Akiho's sound is rhythmic, accessible, fun and blurs the line between today's classical and pop scenes. The audience is in for a special treat as Akiho demonstrates the steelpan and shares insights about his compositions from the stage.
